Description of Duties: Help MEND during MEND Day/Back to School Stars event to serve hundreds of families who will be selecting school supplies and backpacks for their children. As well as creating a fun environment for families to enjoy a carnival event.
Volunteer Impact: Support MEND’s effort to assist families facing economic challenges by creating and fostering a fun family friendly back to school event that helps provide students with essential supplies, easing financial strain on families, and promoting educational fairness. The event will encourage community engagement, raise awareness about mental health, and ensure that children are ready for the upcoming school year.
Specific Responsibilities: You will be assisting MEND in providing quality school supply essentials for their children to the community in addition to general mental health and wellness resources. Assist with the intake of participants receiving the school supplies during our Back-to-School Stars event. Help with the set-up, clean-up, and breakdown of your station as necessary. Assist in handing out school supplies. Assist with facilitating carnival games. Assist in sorting, preparing, and organizing carnival booths. Communicate any important message to the participant as necessary.
Skills/Experience/Resources/Certifications Needed: Volunteers must be comfortable with physical activity and lifting. Ability to move up to 25 lbs.
Dress Code: Wear casual/comfortable family- friendly attire and closed toe flat shoes. Shoes must provide safe, secure footing. Shorts may be worn under the following conditions: All shorts must fall at the knee, all shorts must be worn at waist level (no ‘sagging’), made of cotton, jean, or ‘Dickies’ type material (no nylon type or running shorts, bicycle type shorts, yoga shorts).
Covid-19 Vaccination and Masking: Regardless of vaccination status, masking is optional.
